He’s often joined by fellow characters Baby, played by Sheri Moon Zombie, and Captain Spaulding who was played by the late, great Sid Haig. While Baby and Captain Spaulding are generally the same throughout the films, with any changes to their characters clearly addressed by those around them, Otis Driftwood has one major change that never gets addressed. People tend to be their own worst critics — although critics have plenty of scathing things to say about House of 1000 Corpses. While House of 1000 Corpses is brilliant to many, it was, as mentioned earlier, Zombie's directorial debut, so he's bound to look back and find issues with it. This is probably exacerbated by the fact that he took a different artistic approach to the following Firefly movies.

Letterboxd — Your life in film

House of 1000 Corpses is a 2003 American black comedy horror film[4][5] written, co-scored, and directed by Rob Zombie in his directorial debut, and the first film in the Firefly film series. It stars Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon, Karen Black, Rainn Wilson, Chris Hardwick, Tom Towles, Erin Daniels, Jennifer Jostyn, Walton Goggins, and Dennis Fimple in his final role. The plot centers on a group of teenagers who are kidnapped and tortured by a psychotic family during Halloween after traveling across the country to write a book. If you look at the history of the Chinese Cemetery of Los Angeles, you'll find a reminder of how pervasive racism can be. The cemetery in East Los Angeles, right at the intersection of the 710 and 60 freeways, exists because Los Angeles citizens of Chinese ancestry were formally barred from buying burial plots in official L.A. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 placed a moratorium on immigration of Chinese laborers for ten years, but the racist repercussions lasted far longer.

A palace for Disney, Pixar and Marvel Cinematic Universe movies since its restoration in 1989, the El Capitan Theatre (6838 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles 90028) boasts an expansive sweet shop for the kids and an old-fashioned stage show before the picture. However, like Disneyland itself, the El Capitan has its ghostly dark side. In its previous life, the theater was the site of a suicide in the balcony seats and the death of a manager in its office. When Disney revived the El Capitan, legend has it they walled off the window above the entryway, where his ghost could still be seen from the street. The actor has played a handful of distinctly different characters since the series launch, each one meeting a grisly end thanks to Chucky.

They stole the woman's car and drove until they reached the Kahiki Palms Motel. In May of 1978, Otis was at home sleeping with the rotting corpse of a young woman when officers from the Ruggsville County Sheriff's Department laid siege to the family farm. Awakening with a start, Otis donned an iron mask with a skull painted on it, grabbed a rifle, and opened fire on the offending police officers. The other family members did likewise, but it soon became apparent that they were outgunned.

House of 1000 Corpses was Rob Zombie's directorial debut

"I go to a lot of fan conventions and certainly Otis has stayed alive, at least in the eyes and minds of the fans," Moseley shared with ComicBook.com about reprising the role. "I don't really watch Devil's Rejects or House of 1000 Corpses all that often, so, in other words, I'm not home alone at night, burning the midnight oil, keeping those fires burning for Otis or Chop Top (from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), for that matter." Some of these actors were a major part of the movie, present for the majority of its runtime. But whether they formed a huge part of the movie's machinery or acted as a single cog, each of these actors was part of something special. Their legacies will forever live on in House of 1000 Corpses, and in the hearts of horror fans everywhere. They were still driving in the early morning hours when they noticed a police road block further down the road.

Baby killed Mary and brought her body back to the site where Otis and the others burned her on an altar made of branches. Jerry and Denise were locked inside a coffin and lowered into a tunnel that fed into an underground operating room. The operating room was administered by a psychotic surgeon known as Doctor Satan.

The Devil's Rejects and 3 from Hell have since rounded out the trilogy, so this might come as a surprise to many fans. But Zombie knew the troubles that accompany getting a movie funded, and as the filmmaker explained in a 2013 interview, "If someone's willing to put up that money and make your film happen, you really can't look that gift horse in the mouth." Sheriff Wydell brought all three of them back to the Firefly farmhouse. He had only recently learned that the Fireflys were responsible for murdering his brother, George Wydell, and now he wanted revenge. He tied Otis to a chair and drove large nails through his hands, pinning him to the arms of the chair.

Wearing his Donald costume, Otis descended the staircase where the three others, Mary, Denise and Jerry were bound together in adult-sized rabbit costumes. On October 30th, 1977, Otis encountered four youths who were invited into his home courtesy of Mother Firefly. The guests consisted of Bill Hudley, Mary Knowles, Denise Willis and Jerry Goldsmith. As they drove away from the Firefly home, Otis and his brothers Rufus and Tiny ambushed them in the middle of the road. Otis attacked Bill Hudley while his brothers brought the others back to the house. Otis dragged Bill down into his personal torture den where he bound him against the wall and began to dismember him.

The sequels, on the other hand, started to prefer a more realistic take as seen in The Devil’s Rejects and years later with 3 From Hell. But it’s a lot more than just style that’s changed over the course of the three movies, and as pointed out by some fans, there’s something of a plot hole to be found in the Firefly Trilogy. Otis is a fictional serial killer played by actor Bill Moseley and first appeared in the 2003 horror film House of 1000 Corpses, directed by Rob Zombie. He is one of the more visible and outspoken members of the murderous Firefly clan and is personally responsible for the deaths of at least three individuals. A fetishist to the extreme, Otis is characterized by his strong southern accent, long blond hair and a penchant for spouting his personal philosophical credo. This hardcore horror film's style plays like a terrifying music video, providing a roller coaster ride of gruesomely colorful scenes. To the squeamish, this movie can come off as shocking, repulsive, and downright unwatchable, due to its gory nature. It does, after all, contain torturous mental abuse, bloody murder, and, for good measure, necrophilia. To fans, however, it's one of Rob Zombie's masterpieces, and the film that launched his career in horror. It isn’t a surprise to anyone who’s seen Rob Zombie’s Firefly Trilogy that each of the films has their own distinct style and concepts. In fact, House of 1000 Corpses is best remembered as being a surreal, cartoonish horror film with a neon-washed color palette.

Only one episode remains in Season 3 of “Chucky,” and what a bloody road it’s been so far, especially for actor Devon Sawa. The actor has now officially died twice on screen this season, pulling double duty as President James Collins and body double Randall Jenkins. Both figures may look familiar to longtime NECA collectors, as they’re essentially updated versions of Captain Spaulding and Otis figures released back when the movie came out.

Denise later wakes up to find herself strapped to an operating table, surrounded by Dr. Satan and Earl, who survived the cave-in. The movie ends with Denise screaming in horror and the words "The End?" displayed before the end credits. The Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier offers expansive views, several beautiful chapels, and its own pseudo-"Hollywood" sign, as any self-respecting cemetery should. By 1956, it also offered a crematorium, mortuary, and flower shop, turning it into a one-stop-shop for all death-related needs. A lot of the poor upkeep of the cemetery may be traced to its owner, who has been accused of "grave desecration" and "unlawful burial of multiple bodies in a single plot," among other things.
